What a weekend it was! The 2008 Broadway Camp at Stillwood
had wonderful weather, but even more wonderful visiting,
fun, food, and great teaching. God blessed us with a
summery weekend (did anyone notice the first bolt of
thunder came after everyone was back?). The notion of
light vs. darkness and the question about where is our
heart -- among the topics talked about by Steve, our guest
speaker -- left a lasting impression.

There were requests that the Newsletter would please report
that the women won the softball game on Saturday afternoon.
But no one was quite sure. . . Except that it sure was
fun!

This is an important weekend.
• First, we’ll keep our hardy band of camp fixer-uppers in
our prayers as they head for the Pines in the West
Kootenays for the second annual “working retreat”. It
promises to be a wonderful time - and will have lasting
results: we have a talented crew of builders! This year’s
group is about two dozen strong, when one counts in family
members. It’ll be a friendship-building time, a spiritual
time, a work time... and just plain fun.

• Second, there is a special meeting of the congregation
this Sunday. It will be held right after the regular
service, and the one item on the agenda is presentation of
the Elders’ recommendation that Broadway appoint Megan
Stewart to minister to our kids, Kindergarten to Grade
Nine. Megan was able to be at camp last weekend, and many
got a chance to see her. She will give her testimony
during the service, and then afterward, in the special
meeting, there will be a ballot. Megan is working at
Stillwood this summer -- her tenth consecutive year on the
camp’s staff!

• Preaching duties this Sunday, as Pastor Gary travels with
the men’s group to the Pines, will be Glenn Block. Yes, it
will be his first actual sermon.

The leadership is pleased that Kristen Corrigan, an expert
in church and ‘non-profit’ organizational work, has agreed
to lead the 2008-09 elders and deacons in our annual
orientation session. Pastor Gary heard her speak last
spring at the BC MB ChurchWorks event, and was impressed.
She will meet with our board and the deacon council members
Saturday morning, June 28th... and it will leave everyone
with lots to talk about! The Saturday orientation follows
the Annual General Meeting, to be held the previous Sunday
evening, June 22nd.

People responsible for writing annual reports for our
congregational meeting may not know that they need to go to
Michelle Kornelsen by June 2nd ... not that many days off.
Michelle has kindly consented to make up “the booklet” that
sums up the year - an important task. So far, she is not
being inundated with reports. But perhaps by this Sunday,
she will be....
