The Mexico 2008 team told us it would hold its fundraising
car wash this Saturday “rain or shine” (now that’s
realism!). Those might have been prophetic words, because
the forecast for Saturday calls for both rain showers and
sunshine. The team wants everyone to know that if you get
your car washed in the rain, it’s a deep-clean process
because the surface is already wet and the soapy scrubbing
and rinsing can really do a job to make your car sparkle
again. They also want you to know… Even if it rains...
God’s light will shine... in Mexico, as our team does His
work in Baja California. (Hours on Saturday are 10 AM to 2
PM. Place is our church parking lot.)

Please keep Broadway’s leadership selection process in your
prayers. The suggestions are all in from the discernment
process, and the people who were identified as leaders have
been asked to allow their names to stand. Some are still
praying about how to answer. The Discernment committee
asks that we pray for them, in turn, that God may have His
perfect way with our church next year and in the times to
come! The Annual General Meeting of the congregation will
be held on June 22nd at 6:30 PM. One of the main tasks
will be to confirm the names of the people who were
selected for leadership AND who said “yes”.

Every June, a group of men from Broadway - and sometimes,
their non-Broadway friends - gather early in the morning on
a vast expanse of lawn to participate in a strange annual
ritual. It’s called the Broadway Men’s Golf Tournament,
and you don’t have to be good at golf to take part. You
do, however, have to register. The purpose of this little
news item is to warn that if you don’t register by this
Sunday, you’ll miss it. The tournament is at Meadowlands
on June 21st and Glenn Block is the man to see.

Roxy Neufeld’s TREK mission trip to Peru is almost over.
She leaves for Canada on Monday, after six months in South
America that she says has just flown by. She celebrated
her 19th birthday while the group was on a trip to northern
Peru - a trip which she says was very meaningful. She was
especially touched by the people in El Indio, a small
village where she learned a lot of things.
She says, “The people there had so little, but they gave so
much, all that they had, which was more then just material
possessions. I wished that I could have done more for
them.” You can read more on Roxy’s blog,
roxyneufeld.blogspot.com - and “there are a few pictures
too. “

Don Quiring is hanging around the Broadway office, and it’s
not because he is bored. He is being trained to take over
for Church Administrator Joanne Dekkers when she has her
surgery later in the month. He offered to look after
things until Joanne comes back, and we are grateful to Don.
(Joanne is trying to get people to spell Don’s name
D-A-W-N … but it’ll never stick!)

For those who missed last Sunday’s presentation by the
McMasters on their coming Sierra Leone mission, there is
now a fresh supply of their brochure describing the needs.
Their departure date is July 12. They can pop a brochure
in the mail to anyone who wants it, or people can pick one
up at the church office. The donation level is about a
quarter of the way there, so far.
