Mercy
Mercy is not simply the withholding of punishment, but an act of mercy is giving help or compassion on someone afflicted.
Grace
Grace is God’s unmerited favor. It is kindness from God we don’t deserve. There is nothing we have done, nor can ever do to earn this favor.
————
A prayer for mercy and grace. Say this prayer and ask God’s mercy and His grace on those who come to your mind.
For all those whose lives were too difficult to image this past year.
Lord have mercy. Lord have grace.
For those whose hearts have been broken by grief or war or anguish or destruction.
Lord have mercy. Lord have grace.
For those whose hands have worked and labored to bring hope and rescue.
Lord have mercy. Lord have grace.
For those whose loneliness grips every moment of their days.
Lord have mercy. Lord have grace.
For those whose last hope is slipping away.
Lord have mercy. Lord have grace.
For those whose arms carry and care for the most vulnerable in our society.
Lord have mercy. Lord have grace.
For those who are trapped in the rat race of getting and buying and getting more.
Lord have mercy. Lord have grace.
For those who are tormented by spiritual attack who are clinging to Your strength and armor.
Lord have mercy. Lord have grace.
For those whose hearts are searching and coming up empty.
Lord have mercy. Lord have grace.
For those whose homes are unsafe, whose hearts are filled with fear, who turn to you in desperation.
Lord have mercy. Lord have grace.
For those whose pockets are full, whose storehouses are packed, who say, “eat, drink and be merry”.
Lord have mercy. Lord have grace.
For those caught in a trap of addiction with desire and regret as their constant companions.
Lord have mercy. Lord have grace.
For those who seek Your face, who listen and obey – whose hearts are after You.
Lord have mercy. Lord have grace.
Lord hear our prayer.
Amen.
